Are You Carrying the Weight of Your Family?

Therapy for Eldest Daughters in Asian Families

The Invisible Expectations You Manage Daily

As the eldest daughter in a South Asian or East Asian family, you often take on roles beyond your years. From being the second parent to managing household responsibilities and mediating family dynamics, you’ve become the glue that holds everything together. But at what cost?

You may feel:

  • Overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed while supporting others.

  • Guilty for wanting space or independence.

  • Exhausted from juggling cultural expectations and personal desires.

At Intentional Therapy, we see you. We understand the unique struggles that come with being the eldest daughter in cultures where family duty often takes precedence over personal well-being.

Why Therapy Is the Space You Deserve

Rediscover Yourself

Eldest daughters often lose sight of their own goals and desires while prioritizing their families. Through therapy, you’ll reconnect with your authentic self and learn how to honor your needs without guilt.

Learn to Set Boundaries

Culturally sensitive therapy can help you set and communicate healthy boundaries in a way that respects both your family and your well-being.

Heal from Generational Patterns

We’ll work together to untangle the effects of intergenerational trauma and family dynamics, allowing you to break cycles and redefine your role in healthier terms.

Build Emotional Resilience

You’ll learn practical tools to manage stress, navigate family relationships, and prioritize self-care while still honoring your cultural values.

This is a space where you can speak freely about your struggles, your hopes, and the dreams you’ve put on hold.

Therapy at Intentional Therapy isn’t about abandoning your responsibilities—it’s about redefining them in a way that allows you to thrive.

You deserve to live a life where you feel supported, fulfilled, and authentically yourself.

Our therapists are equipped to explore:

  • The balance between collectivist values and individual identity.

  • The emotional toll of being the "strong one" in your family.

  • How societal and familial expectations have shaped your life

Our Team

At Intentional Therapy PLLC, we specialize in providing culturally-attuned, non-traditional therapy for BIPOC individuals, particularly those from South and East Asian backgrounds. Founded in March 2021 by Parthi B. Patel, a first-generation South Asian American, our practice understands the unique challenges faced by first- and second-generation individuals, such as bi-cultural identity struggles and intergenerational trauma.

We’ve created a space where you don’t have to explain your culture—our therapists ‘just get it,’ because we’ve lived it.

We have since expanded our practice to include other mental health professionals. Each of our therapists has unique areas of specialization and expertise, allowing us to collaborate and provide a range of care to individuals, couples, families, and organizations.”
